Our Review:
The Brother XL 5500 is an easy to use basic sewing machine which suits the basic sewer. Its probably the best machine on the market in its price range (£100 and below) and although its not oozing features, functions, charm or premium quality it certainly does suit the basic sewer wanting to do the occasional sewing job and if the budget was £100 or less the Brother XL5500 would be the one to go for.

The most important thing to consider is how thick is the thickest fabric you will ever want to sew with the machine? The machine can have all the features and functions you need but if it’s not capable of sewing your denim jeans or curtain header tape you will want to throw it through the window! The sturdier the machine is; the better.
