For the
Bernina 1008S is 10/10, its one of the most traditional sewing machines available on the market and that’s the beauty of it, it’s a heavy duty basic sewing machine with very little to go wrong or break!
The
Bernina 1008 S Sewing Machine is suitable for any type of sewing providing you don’t want more than 2 decorative stitches and an old fashioned manual 6 step button hole doesn’t bother you.
We now include the
classic and legendary Foot 1 (solid foot) as standard and the new
1008 S model machine also has a new front cover with classy silver graphics.
It’s got a metal body (except for the back cover and accessory box which are plastic), an oscillating CB hook (bottom loading bobbin) which is perfect for free machine embroidery / quilting and very logical control knobs.
The
Bernina 1008 S and its very similar predecessors have been a favourite in schools, colleges, university’s and professional sewers for many years because of their reliability, versatility and ease of use.
The
Bernina 1008 S has been around for a long time, it’s a proven design and would be an excellent choice for anyone that needs a basic high quality sewing machine. Over the years we’ve found that the only weakness is that if the user doesn’t stop sewing when the top thread breaks; the end of the thread whips back up inside the machine and gets wrapped around the take-up leaver pivot points. If the thread isn’t removed very quickly it can cause premature wear to certain parts of the machine. So the top tip is, keep an eye on the needle thread and STOP sewing if the thread breaks and you’ll never have a big repair bill!
