Bernina 590 Sewing Machine Review
Are you looking for a stylish sewing machine?
Bernina sewing machines are some of the most sought-after high-end machines because they’re built to last and built with many features that everyone will love to use on a daily basis!
The Bernina 590 machine has 1774 stitches programmed in- you’ll want for nothing when it comes to stitch selection! That includes 18 different buttonholes styles including an eyelet that are all one-step, 500 decorative stitches to add style to any project, 38 utility stitches that will assist you in creating beautiful and durable garments, 59 quilting stitches that are sure to make quilted projects stand out, and 9 different sewing alphabets so that you can create beautiful tags and quilt labels! All of these stitches are adjustable by length and width, where applicable, so that your projects come out perfect with the right stitch sizes. This machine also comes with darning programs so that you can mend to your heart’s delight!
One of our favourite sewing features on this machine is the knee lift! When you’re working on a project that requires both hands, be it something delicate or something with a lot of layers, but you need to lift the presser foot in order to manoeuvre the fabric a certain way, it’s the knee lift to the rescue. You’ll use the lever that plugs into the front of the machine and hangs under the table you’re working on so that you can easily press it with your knee. And just like that, you’ve lifted the presser foot with a simple gesture of your knee!
The 590 also comes with ample workspace. You’ll have 8 inches of workspace to the right of the needle, which is plenty of space to work on quilts of most sizes and any other larger project you set to your needle! You’ll find that the Bernina 590 comes with an extension table included. An extension table is truly a great asset no matter what type of sewist you are. It extends the sewing machines working space and helps to support your project as you work.
This machine also has embroidery capabilities, but you do noeed to purchase the optional Embroidery module to access this feature. It comes with a large touch screen that allows you to edit any design that’s already programmed into the machine as well as any you download from the internet. You can mirror, rotate, scale, and combine any design on the machine on the touch screen itself. And you can combine designs to stitch together in the same hoop!
One feature on the embroider that’s extra special, since it only comes on certain machines, is that you can program where you want to cut a jump stitch. The programmable jump stitch cut saves you from having too many jump stitches throughout your design, so you don’t have to go in and clean them up afterwards and risk cutting your design with your embroidery snips.
With the optional embroidery module, you can easily baste your projects before stitching them. Basting tacks the layers of fabric that you’re working with so that you don’t have to use pins or binder clips where you need to sew, taking away the risk of sewing over them and the risk of your layers shifting as you sew all at the same time. It’s useful for embroidery and quilting especially, so that you can make sure your stitching is exactly where you meant it to be as you work.
