Bernina 790+ Sewing Machine Review
Do you want a sewing machine that can do almost everything?
Then you want to consider the Bernina 790 Sewing Machine. Not only is this a superb machine for quilting and dressmaking, but it also has some features that you might not even know you want or need yet. Not only can it handle fabrics from satin and silk to leather and denim, but it also has features such as a stitch regulator, built-in troubleshooting, and embroidery make this machine on of the most well-rounded sewing machines out there today.
Let’s start with the basic specs of this sewing machine. It’s one of Bernina’s finest, that’s for sure. This machine comes with all of the basic feet and features you’ve come to expect from a Bernina Sewing Machine.
From a first glance you’ll see that it has a large touch screen at the top of the machine’s face. But that’s no ordinary touch screen. It has tutorials built into the machine in case you need help troubleshooting or don’t yet know how to use a feature. This feature will save you time, money, and energy! No more will you have to go to Google to find the answer on how to do something on your sewing machine- your machine will just tell you! Even the most experienced sewist will love being able to use these tutorials for reminders on how to utilise some of the stitches they don’t always use.
This machine also has a lot of usable workspace available, which is perfect for any sewist that likes to work on big projects or just have a lot of space to manoeuvre and manipulate the fabric. You’ll find a whopping 10 inches of workspace to the right of the needle, and that’s not all of the space you’ll have!
The Bernina 790+ also comes with its own extension table. Extension tables are some of the best assets for quilters especially but are great helpers to any kind of sewing. They help to support the fabric at the level of the needle so that the fabric doesn’t pull away from the needle. It keeps your seams straight and even when you’re working on large projects, like piecing backings or utilising the free motion quilting aspect of this machine.
Now, you’re probably wondering how many stitches are included in the Bernina 790+ Sewing Machine? More than you think is even possible, that’s for sure! The 790+ comes with 1352 stitches built into it. 15 of those are automatic 1-Step buttonhole stitches. 506 stitches are decorative stitches. 24 stitches are dedicated to quilting. It also includes 8 different alphabets for your quilt labels and tags. It also includes 270 embroidery patterns, but we’ll get to that in just a moment. It's really easy to customise all of your stitches, too. You can create stitches that are as wide as 9mm with the buttons to the side of the touch screen. You’ll be able to customise them even further with the Stitch Designer that’s built into the machine.
You’ll also be excited to know that this machine comes with the Bernina Stitch Regulator. This stitch regulator is perfect for free motion quilting and stitching. It’s patented by Bernina, making it something you’ll only find on Bernina Sewing Machines. It is exactly as it sounds: it regulates stitches to make sure they’re even as you move the fabric around. If you’re a quilter, especially one that free motion quilts and does a fair amount of ruler work, you will absolutely want this feature that isn’t found on any other brand of sewing machine.
If you’re an embroidery enthusiast, you’ll love the 270 designs that come pre-loaded on this machine. If you’re looking to use the embroidery aspect of this machine, you’ll want to make sure that you’re purchasing the embroidery unit along with it. This way you don’t have to purchase a second machine just to embroider your quilt labels or special, customised gifts. An embroidery machine is the perfect addition to any sewing studio as it really makes your projects just that much more customised and special. Adding monograms to towels and kids’ school belongings, or even creating artwork for someone’s home, you’ll love having the ability to embroider with your sewing machine!
As with any embroidery machine, you’ll be able to add any designs that you purchase online or create yourself. The machine includes a USB port to be able to transfer any design to the machine from your computer.
